Pumpkin seeds podi is a delightful South Indian spice blend that is often made with lentils and peanuts. In this recipe I will be combining roasted pumpkin seeds with a mix of spices such as red chilies, cumin, coriander, and curry leaves to create a delicious condiment that’s both also nutritious. Pumpkin seeds are packed with essential nutrients like magnesium, zinc, and healthy fats, which support heart health, boost immunity, and promote overall well-being.

Pumpkin seeds podi is a spicy seasoning that can be made once and consumed for several days as a flavoring spice. This seasoning makes a great meal prep companion and maked otherwise bland food flavorful. Each ingredient is toasted seperately since they need different duration and temperatures. Care must be taken not to toast them at very high temperatures.


  • 1 Cup Pumpkin seeds

  • 1 Cup Dessicated coconut

  • 1/2 Cup White sesame seeds

  • 2 tsp Cumin seeds

  • 2 tsp Coriander seeds

  • 10 cloves or 1 Tbsp garlic

  • 1/2 Cup curry leaf

  • 5 Kashmiri red chili

  • 1/2 tsp Hing/Asafoetida

  • 2 tsp Salt


  • Toast the dessicated Coconut
  • Toast the Sesame seeds until they begin to pop
  • Toast the pumpkin seeds until they pop
  • Toast the coriander and cumin seeds
  • Toast the fresh curry leaves until the leaves are dry and brittle.
  • Add a tablespoon of oil to the pan and toast the kashmiri dry red chilis.
  • Add all the ingredients except the dessicated coconut and sesame seeds to the blender and grind it coarsely
  • Add the remaining two ingredients and give the blender a few short pulses and the pumpkin seeds podi is ready to be enjoyed.
