If you’re used to the sweet porridge as breakfast dish, this recipe will definitely surprise you, because in India oats are usually cooked with vegetables and spices. Try the traditional Indian breakfast using our easy and healthy recipe. It takes only 15 minutes to cook and the result is really delicious!
Ingredients (2 portions):
- oats – 1 cup
- vegetables of choice, we like: carrots, tomatoes, green beans, green peas (you can use frozen beans and peas to save time) – 200 gr
- onion – 1 small
- parsley (or dill or coriander)
- thumb-sized ginger
- turmeric (kurkuma) – 1 tsp
- red chili powder – 1 tsp
- cumin – 1 tsp
- 1 green chili pepper (optional)
Method:
Step 1. Chop all vegetables in small cubes. Chop ginger in small pieces or grate it.
Step 2. Heat cooking oil of choice in a pan and add the cumin seeds. Let them roast for a while.
Step 3. Add the chopped vegetables, ginger and onion at once. Mix it well and cook for about 3-5 minutes, until they soften. Add tumeric and red chili powder.
Step 4. Add oats, mix everything together. Pour 2 glasses of water, add salt according to your taste, mix everything nicely and cook together for another 5 minutes.
