Our Kyoto Night Tour through Gion and Kamogawa is a celebration of Japanese traditional Kaiseki, a multi-course, multi-flavored Japanese dinner that flawlessly mixes the cuisine of the world to produce some of the most delicious dishes on the planet.
Starting in Kamogawa, we will stroll along the local streets as we head toward Kamogawa River to gaze upon the many Japanese locals enjoying the cool of the evening while sitting on the many terraces along the water known as Kamogawa yuka noryo in Japanese.
Prior to the Edo Period, the riverside had been a popular place for performers and vendors, who would set up folding benches for their clients. Eventually Kyoto’s upper classes, as well as a growing class of merchants, decided that this bohemian atmosphere would make the ideal backdrop for the banquets they would hold during the spring and summer. The riverside came to be even more popular in the centuries to come, and being able to find relief from the hot summers while dining, drinking, and making merry became one of the city’s notable pleasures.
After crossing the Kamogawa River enter into Gion, a district of Kyoto, home to many geisha houses and traditional tea houses. In the evenings you will be able to see Geisha walking the streets.
As Japan’s former capital and the seat of the imperial court for over a thousand years, Kyoto offers a rich culinary tradition. Kyoto reigned as the capital of Japan for nearly 1,200 years and as a result, has developed a unique culture of food ranging from simple sweets for the common people to stunning kaiseki courses for nobles and formal tea ceremony meals. There are over 100 Michelin-starred restaurants in Kyoto, offering food that ranges from traditional Japanese, to French, and fusion styles.
At the end of our short journey will sit down to a Kaiseki dinner, prepared especially and specifically for Arigato Japan. We want this moment of your life to be a memory you will never forget so we will reserve the details for only those who join the tour. To give you an idea, one of the courses will be an ornate platter mounted with living fish that you can enjoy as sashimi straight from the bone. In this 10-course Kaiseki dinner, just this course alone will provide you with the freshest sashimi you will ever taste in your life. The other 9 courses are a mystery but we guarantee this meal will be an unforgettable event in your life!
